Disaster Preparedness

You never know when a disaster will occur. Therefore, it’s very important to be prepared in advance on a regular basis.

Here, we will provide information on how to use the Disaster Emergency Message Dial 171 and the Disaster Message Board (web171) systems.

When a major disaster strikes in Japan, it is common for cell phones to be disconnected from service in order to facilitate disaster relief communications, which can cause panic when people are unable to contact their friends and family. The Disaster Emergency Message Dial 171 and the Disaster Message Board (web171) are two systems you can use to contact your loved ones if you have lost contact following a disaster.

Make sure that you’re ready to use these services during a real emergency by posting a test message on one of these practice days:

・The 1st and 15th of every month (all day)

・Jan. 1-Jan. 3 (all day)

・Disaster Prevention and Volunteer Week(Jan 15 9:00am - Jan 21 5:00pm)

・Disaster Preparedness Week(Aug 30 9:00am - Sept 5 5:00pm)
